Some comments for the Board on the VoIP presentation. * Shelley's estimate projecting 200 VoIP sign-ups a year seems very optimistic when looking at overall yearly DSL sign-ups (running under 100) and taking into account VoIP usage should be about 7% of the overall wireline market in 2017. A question is: Would every 100 new DSL sign-ups be likely to translate to about 7 new VoIP sign-ups? (see below) * I'd like to see NCF do a member survey on VoIP to get a better understanding of how many existing members actually use VoIP and what the interest might be in switching. Maybe even attempt a survey what they currently pay? * Overseas long distance, I don't see any mention? * I don't see the phone number porting prices in Shelley's proposal. Other providers charge anywhere from zero to about $25 possibly $35 as I recollect. * Phone porting needs to be done seamlessly otherwise the existing number is lost. * I read report recently that the average monthly amount paid for wireline services by those under 30 or 35 was 11 dollars and change. Voip usage as a percentage of telephone service is only about 4% as of 2014 and growing on average about one percent a year. That's from Stats Canada and the CRTC. In 2013, 60% of households reported using a cell phone exclusively, up from 39% in 2010 and 26% in 2008. * Using Stats Can figures over 2010 to 2013, one could estimate that by the end of 2016 approximately 81% of households under 35 will only use cell phones. * 85% of Ontario households use cellular phones.
