1. Welcome to a new year at the Carleton University Debate Society. We had a very successful day at prelude, with many students expressing interest about the debate society. Unfortunately, we did not have the locations for meetings available to us at the time. The first official debate meeting is on Friday, September 8th, at 3:30 pm in the Tory Building, room 234. The meetings on Wednesday will take place at 7:00 in Southam Hall, room 316.

2. We have several upcoming events that members are encouraged to attend. Novice Training day is on Saturday, September 16th, from 9:00 am until 6:00 pm in Tory Building, room 360. The University of Ottawa's English Debate Society will be attending this event also. The Central Novice Championships will take place on the weekend of the 21st. Held in Toronto this year, we will be sending as many novices as we can. This is a great opportunity to improve debate skills and meet experienced and new debaters from across Ontario and Quebec.
