4.  Novice Tournament Results

1.  Fills the sixth position on the executive and the fifth person on the Tournament Selection Committee. The position is voted on by all novices. If any novices are interested in applying then please nominate themselves by sending an e-mail to exec@carletondebate.org. The deadline is the Friday after Thanksgiving at 3:00. We will vote on Novice rep at the same Friday meeting. Any novice who cannot attend can send a vote by proxy to exec@carletondebate.org.

2.  According to the bylaw passed last year at the AGM, CUDS is forming a three person committee to investigate and report on gender and diversity issues within the club.  The committee consists of the president, the equity officer, and a third person who will be decided based on an open application process.  If you are interested in serving on this committee, please send your name, contact information, and a brief statement about why you think you will be suitable for the position to exec@carletondebate.org

Mike Powell has proposed a constitutional amendment dealing with procedural issues in voting.  The proposed amendment is located on CUSIDnet.

3.  Several major tournaments are coming up soon.  On the week after Thanksgiving, the English Debate Society at the University of Ottawa is hosting the Father Roger Guindon Cup.  We will be sending as many people as we can to this tournament, so apply as soon as possible.  In addition to Guindon, we are sending many teams to the Yale BP tournament on October 27 and 28.  If you are interesting in debating at a top Ivy League University, please express your interest to the executive, as this looks to be an awesome opportunity.  We will be sending five teams and two judges.

4.  Our Novices are back from the Central Novice Championships, held this year in October.  Everybody had a great time in Toronto, our Novices did very well, and gained lots of experience in debating.  Thanks to all the debaters and judges that went to Toronto, and also to Hart House for hosting the tournament.
