CONSTRUCTIVE POINTS
1. AGM results
2. Upcoming events
1. CUDS held its 2005/06 AGM on March 24th where a new executive was
elected for the 2006/07 year and a number of constitutional amendments
and bylaws were passed. Thanks to our outgoing executive for a job very
well done in this banner year for CUDS, and good luck to our new
executive:
Adam Coombs, President
Jordan Charbonneau, VP Administration
Graham Pressey, VP Communications
Andrew Lawrence, VP Internal
Garnett Genuis, VP External
Yannick LePage, VP French Debate (new position)
Constitutional amendments
included points about representation of Carleton's diverse student body
in CUDS, the formation of a new tournament selection committee (TSE),
the establishment of a new executive position (VP French Debate),
tournament particpation selection policy, and various minor points on
the descriptions of executive duties. Moreover, several new bylaws were
created in regards to reporting tournament results, the formation of a
new equity committee, voting rights, and high-cost tournaments - check
out the bylaws section to find out more.
Our special congratulations also go out to Padraic Ryan, our former VP
External, who will be going on to higher and mightier things as the new
President of CUSID, the governing body of Canadian university debating.
Armed with a respectable haircut and a new, less-incriminating picture
on CUSIDnet, Padraic is sure to take CUSID by storm.
2. There are several upcoming social events. On April 7, CUDS is meeting up with EDS for an end-of-year banquet at the Blue Cactus. In addition, Ben Piper is hosting a get-together/potluck at his house on the 15th of April. All debaters are welcome for both events, but are encouraged to give their names to the exec so we have some idea of the numbers we can expect. Please post on the appropriate CUSIDnet thread if you intend on attending either one of the events.
