Carleton University Debating Society (CUDS) Member,

In this email:
CUDS Tunnel Mural to be repainted Friday, February 6
For too long CUDS has had the ugliest tunnel mural at Carleton.  No more!  The week of February 2, I will paint over our existing tunnel mural with white paint.  Then we'll pencil in the new design.  On Friday, February 6, we will paint the new tunnel mural consisting of the Wayne Chu-designed CUDS logo, as approved by Carleton's Equity Services.  Later on, we'll varnish the image.  We implore everyone with artistic talent to come to the meeting that day to help out and to let me, the VP Communications, know if maybe - just maybe - you'll be able to make it!

CUSA FACCS Board Time Table
CUDS is one of the Carleton Clubs and Societies that is on CUSA's FACCS Board this semester.  We need people to sit on this board which determines which clubs and societies will receive what quantity of funding from CUSA. If you have some free time next Monday (Feb 2), or Wednesday (Feb 4), we still have some time slots on those days we need to fill. Sign up on the appropriate thread on the CUDS forum.  If you don't have access to the message board, email me (Josh Prowse) with your CUSIDnet user name to be granted permission.

Event to Improve Your Public Speaking
Carleton graduate Julie Ireton is an award winning technology and business reporter for CBC Radio One.  The Carleton Toastmasters are hosting a speech where she shares secrets she uses to communicate to an invisible audience of thousands of people so that you can apply these techniques personally to improve your public speaking.  This event is Wednesday, February 4, 2004 from 7:00pm to 8:15pm in Tory Building Room 202.

Now With Three Weekly Meetings to Serve You Better
This winter, CUDS will meet every week in 411 Southam Hall:
  • 5:30pm Wednesday
  • 2:30pm Friday

This is in addition to CUDS President Mike Powell's case-building session in the Mike's Place grad bar every Wednesday between 1:00 and 2:30 pm.  You don’t have to come out to both meetings; we hope that one of the dates and times will work with your schedule. Everyone is welcome to come out; no experience is required. Feel free to come late or leave early if necessary.

Upcoming Debating Tournaments
There are many upcoming debating tournaments hosted by other Universities in Canada, the United States, and throughout the world.  View the complete listing of tournaments targeted at Canadian debaters.  If you are interested in attending a particular tournament, make a post to that effect on the message board

Unfortunately, CUDS will not be able to provide financial support for most tournaments.  Upcoming tournaments include the Tournoi de débat à l'Université de Sherbrooke February 6-8, as well as the University of Western Ontario's Invitational tournament the same weekend.

Photos from McGill's Winter Carnival
Last weekend, CUDS attended the Winter Carnival 2004 debating tournament at McGill in Montreal.  It will consisted of six rounds of Canadian parliamentary debate and three public speaking rounds.  View photos of your Carleton delegation on the CUDS web site.
