1) Room Changes
The rooms for Wednesday and Friday meetings have once again changed. We will now be meeting in Loeb D580 for Wednesday meetings and Loeb B249 for Friday meetings. Sorry for the confusion.
2) Bishop's Tournament
Bishop's University in Lennoxville Quebec will be hosting their second annual invitational tournament on Febuary 18th and 19th. In order to determine if there is enough interest to warrant sending teams, we are asking anyone interested to please sign up on CUSIDnet or send an e-mail to
exec@carletondebate.org. This tournament is the last invitational tournament before Nationals and is a great chance to get in some extra practice. For more information please see the relevant thread in the CUSIDnet Announcements forum.
3) National Championships Sign-Up
The National Championships will be held at Queens University on the Weekend of March 23rd to 25th. We must register by the 15th of Febuary so we need to know numbers as soon as possible. If you are interested in debating at Nationals please post in the relevant thread in the Carleton forum on CUSIDnet or e-mail the executive. Nationals is always a fantastic experience and Queens is going to be hosting a great tournament. This will also be the final tournament of the year and is the last chance to squeeze in some competative debating in before the years end.
4) The Annual Lord Dorchester Cup
This is a message from our volunteer coordinator Blair Stein:
For those of you who volunteered with me at the Xerxes Cup debating
tournament in October, I'm sure that you'll remember how much fun it
was. For those of you that didn't, you seriously missed out. Well, CUDS
is asking for your help again. This time, it's for the Lord Dorchester
Cup, our annual university-level tournament. Here are the details. The tournament itself is from March 2 - 4, 2007.
I will need lots and lots of judges, runners, food organizers and
people to do other odd jobs for all three days. I'm sure that you are asking "What's in it for me? At Xerxes, all I got
was a loot bag!" Well, Dorchester will have socials on both the Friday
and Saturday nights! Fun, all-ages friendly evenings for you to mingle
with the debaters and have an awesome time. Plus, we will feed you
several meals. And finally, don't forget the warm fuzzy feeling you
will get inside from knowing that you helped CUDS run the best
tournament of the year. Also, for those of you whom we have sent away to tournaments, it is expected that you will help out with running Dorchester. I know that it's a long way away, but please email me at
novice@carletondebate.org so I can start a tentative volunteer list to send out more details.
Thanks in advance, everyone! Lord Dorchester would approve!
5) French National Championships
The French National Championships will be hosted by Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal on the weekend of March 16th-18th. For those interested in debating in Canada's other official language, please sign up in the relevant thread in the Carleton Forum on CUSIDnet or e-mail
francais@calretondebate.org. Also, for those worried about debating in French, Yannick, our VP French, will be organizing French practice rounds when we get closer to the tournament.
