2. Upcoming Tournaments
3. CUSIDnet
1. CUDS had a very successful fall semester, with amazing results in the tournaments that we have attended. Garnett Genuis and Padraic Ryan did very well at Yale, finishing as quarter-finalists, additionally Padraic placed third overall in the speaker scores as the top Canadian speaker. In the Oxford Inter-varsity Tournament in England, Padraic Ryan and
Kirsten Odynski were the top Canadian team. At Chancellors, Garnett placed as the second public speaker, and Blair Stein came fifth in public speaking at Guindon. CUDS once again hosted the Xerxes High School Debating Tournament. For the very first time this year, however, Xerxes was run in British Parliamentary Style. The tournament was a success with over forty debaters participating from schools across eastern Ontario.
CUDS will be sending three teams to the World Debating Championships, hosted this year by the University of British Columbia. We are looking forward to beating our success last year, in which we placed sixteenth out of over three hundred fifty teams.
2. There several tournaments coming up that people are able to sign up. Winter Carnival, the North American Championships, and Leger are all coming up soon and if you want to participate, please express your interest on CUSIDnet or email
exec@carletondebate.org.
3. To sign up on CUSIDnet, go to www.cusid.ca/community, register, and then send 'Graham Pressey' a message or email
vpcom@carletondebate.org to be granted access into the Carleton forum. There is more information there on how to sign up for tournaments, how to debate, and interesting discussion on a variety of contentious and interesting topics.
We hope that you have had a good semester, and would like to wish everybody luck for the exam period. Happy holidays!
