1.  UB Worlds Results:  Over the Winter Break, CUDS sent three teams, one judge and one tabs director to the Worlds Debating Championship in Vancouver, hosted by the University of British Columbia.  Carleton had a really good showing this year:  out of over three hundred teams, Carleton A placed 65th with 16 points.  Carleton B placed 136th with 14 points, and Carleton C placed 217th with 12 points.  Padraic Ryan had the top speaker scores from a Canadian team, and Garnett Genuis had the third highest speaker scores from a Canadian team.  Our congratulations go out to all of the Carleton debaters that went to Vancouver over the winter holidays and debated.

2.  New Year: As 2007 rolls around, we'd like to remind all members that the regular debating meetings start on Wednesday at 7:00 in 316 Southam Hall.  Friday meetings are still in 234 Tory at 3:30.  If you haven't been able to come to as many meetings as you might have liked in the first semester, this is a good opportunity to catch up with debating and get into practice.

3.  Panda Debate:  Along with the new year comes our traditional no-holds-barred debating tournament with our Ottawa University' English Debate Society.  Held on the Friday and Saturday of February, the winners of this tournament get to keep the traditional panda for the year.  Last year, Carleton debaters Adam Coombs and Garnett Genuis won the tournament and the panda from EDS.  We're looking to defend the Panda this year.  This is a great tournament for everyone to go to as it is in Ottawa and has a friendly environment.  If you haven't been able to get to a tournament so far this year, this is a really good one to attend.  Contact the executive at exec@carletondebate.org if you want to go to Panda or want more information.

4.  Upcoming Tournaments:  Along with the Panda Cup, we are sending people to many tournaments this semester, including Sodales at Dalhousie; Winter Carnival at McGill; North American Championships at Bates College, Maine; and the Leger Cup in Guelph.

5.  Dorchester:  CUDS is also hosting a tournament, the Lord Dorchester Cup during March 2-4.  Our tournament director, Josh Prouse is looking for volunteers to help out with the tournament.  If you would like to help out or want more information about the Dorchester Cup, email Josh at dorchester@carletondebate.org.
