Meeting Minutes

1.       Present:       Mark Goldblatt (Canadian Co-operative Association)

                              Michel Martin, singer

                              Nicole Ratté, singer

                              Jozée Devoua, singer

                              Doug Martin, saxophones

                              Bernard Stépien, saxophones

                              Howard Tweddle, bass and piano

2.       After a general exposition from Michel Martin about his idea of a local jazz musicians' co-operative that would operate a jazz venue full-time and a sharing of those present about their interest in the idea, Mark Goldblatt presented generally about co-ops, re-iterating several times that, based on his 30 years of experience in the co-op movement, including with worker co-ops, that the idea of a jazz musicians' co-op is entirely viable.

3.       All agreed that the next step would be a meeting to which all local jazz musicians would be invited to discuss the vision and mission of such a co-op, the discussion to be facilitated in a voluntary capacity by Mark Goldblatt. This meeting will take place on Sunday, November 2, at Le Petit Chicago at 50 Promenade du Portage in Hull, near Eddy St. Maxime Gauld, impresario and owner of this club, has graciously agreed to host the meeting.

 4.      A second step would be the conduct of a feasibility study by someone with experience. To this end, Mark Goldblatt agreed to contact the Ontario Co-operative Association in Guelph about funding for this study and other development help. With a similar purpose, Michel Martin will make contact with the Coopérative de développement régional Outaouais-Laurentides  in Gatineau. Jozée Devoua will speak to Jean-Pierre Allain who had obtained help from the City of Gatineau to try to organize a jazz festival in Gatineau.

5.       Nicole Ratté agreed to help Michel Martin with the computer formatting of the invitation to the general meeting about the co-op mission. Michel will ensure that word of this meeting gets to all and sundry via newsletters, the union and other means.
