The Dalton Camp Award will go to the winner or winners of an essay competition on the link between democracy and the media in Canada. This year there will be one Award, open to all eligible entrants, consisting of a prize of $10,000, as well as a bronze cast medal by the late Canadian sculptress Dora de Pédèry-Hunt. In addition, a second Award consisting of a prize of $2,500 may be awarded, at the Selection Committee’s discretion, to the best essay by an entrant who is or was during the 2014 calendar year a student at a recognized post-secondary institution.

For twelve years now, FRIENDS has sponsored the Dalton Camp Award, an essay competition honouring the memory of a great Canadian journalist and political actor who, among his many achievements, was one of FRIENDS' founders in 1985.

Last year we increased this Award to $10,000 in order to encourage more Canadians to think and write about the link between media and democracy.
