MultiSport Zone - Summer Programs and Summer Hours
by Laevens, Jennifer
Hi Gang,
This is the place that I went to for my bike fit. They are willing to do some “Chatham Day” stuff for our clubs (swimming, biking, running). I dealt with Darryl Bondy for my bike fit but some other names at the shop are Jeff Robinson (co-owner) and Paul.
In addition to bike fitting you can train. They have 8 computerized bike spots… you bring your bike and put it on the trainers and then watch a big screen TV and race with 8 other competitors on course from around the world like the Hawii Ironman or the upcoming Peterborough course for the ½ Iron.
They also have an endless pool and will video tape your swim stroke for improvement. The pool is hard work, no slacking! (Actually, you can control the speed). There are mirrors on the bottom and at the front to see yourself swim…. Interesting… so that’s what the fish see!
Lastly, they have the TRX band system, a treadmill and will coordinate a local run. Oh and did I mention the bikes… yep, some of those too including a $12,500 Argon! Wow! They carried Felt, Argon, Scott and one other brand. Great place to compare other technology.
For all those who picked up a new bike this year, I highly recommend a pro fit to get the most of each ride. It makes a huge difference in your power and overall endurance and comfort on the bike.
If you have any questions, please give me a call or contact MultiSport Zone directly. You can also find them on FB.
Have a great day!

Ride of Silence
by Member Services CCK
The May 19 Ride of Silence is a great idea. As per the email below and
the attachment, Chatham-Kent's bike collision record is about four times
the provincial average (per 100 bike trips)
The stats are from police reports. As you know, many collisions go
unreported. There is also some doubt that the fatalities number is
complete - it tends to include only "dead at the scene" and not
subsequent deaths in hospital.
For a route, maybe we could follow the streets with the highest accident
rates
From Competitive fitness
Grand to St Clair
St Clair to McNaughton
McNaughton to Lacroix
Lacroix to Park
Park to Queen
Queen to William to King
King to Third
Third to Raleigh to Richmond
Richmond to Keil
Keil back to Competitive Fitness
If my math is right that's about 12 kms - done slowly (commemorating
dead and injured) and allowing for traffic lights and stop signs be
about an hour.
Going through the city with numbers at a slow speed on
arterials we might need a parade permit but it's probably the best way
to draw attention to the issue of cycling safety.

Subject: LATEST BIKE/CAR COLLISION STATS FOR C-K
We just received the 2008 stats on 2008 bike/car collisions in C-K.
Thanks to Mark Ceppi in Traffic Engineering for his continuing help with
this.
We now have the collision statistics for the years 2002 through 2008.
I'm attaching a summary of those numbers. As you see, 2008 ties with
2003 for the lowest number of reported collisions, the number of
incidents involving personal injuries is the lowest in the seven year
stretch, and there were no fatalities at the scene. Good news!
The averages over the past seven years are more meaningful than this one
year's record:
-Average annual collisions with vehicles per 100 trips in
C-K is at least 400% of the provincial average. Our streets and roads
are not safe for cyclists.
-Fatalities are under-reported. They reflect deaths at the
scene, and do not include injured cyclists who die after transport to
hospital. A well-reported case of two cyclists struck in Blenheim is an
example that doesn't show up in the statistics.
-Over the six years 2002 thru 2008, 66% of collisions
happened in intersections. Two things we can learn from this:
1) We need to make intersections safer for
cyclists.
2) This is lower than the 75% average in
Ontario, and tells us that our mid-block infrastructure is not as safe
as in other Ontario communities.
- The greatest number of collisions happened on arterial (
main) streets. We need to make them safer.
Let's not ignore the facts:
-Cycling in Chatham-Kent is less safe than in
other Ontario communities. The municipality is legally responsible for
providing safe passage for all forms of transportation. A huge potential
legal liability lurks here.
-Many people in C-K choose not to cycle because
they (rightly) feel unsafe. As a result, we are a less healthy, more
polluted, less attractive community.
-Those who choose to cycle pay a penalty in
injury, property damage, and in some cases death.
-We know how to resolve these risks at moderate
cost. Other Ontario communities have done it. Council has approved the
budget for C-K catch-up efforts (subject to annual revue).
Many municipalities have all the stakeholders
(Police, Traffic Engineering, Cycling Reps) do an annual review of these
kinds of statistics to identify opportunities for improving safety.
-Let's do it!

MS Boston Pizza Night
by Ann McKenzie
Hi Guys
Ok here's the deal. I wont finalize this until Tuesday with Boston Pizza please bring up any comments or concerns before then.
Boston Pizza Booster Night
Monday, June 14th 6-9pm
Adult Tickets $20
Child tickets (under 10year) $15
(We still make $10 on a child's ticket they only charge us $5 )
The tickets will say:
Roger's Angels
Riding to End MS
and the prices.
Only other thing we need to do is have someone there that night to take in the tickets which I can do no problem. At then end of the night we count up the tickets and only pay for the tickets that come in that night.

MS Fund Raising
by Ann McKenzie
Hi Guys:
Talked to Boston Pizza in regards to a fundraising event. This is how it works.
It's called a Booster Night
Boston Pizza had 100-120 tickets printed up at a cost to us of $30. Tickets are for an all you can eat pasta/ pizza etc night at Boston Pizza.
We need to decided what night of the week. It needs to be a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday night
Tickets can be sold for $20 of which we receive $10 back.
Therefore if we sell all 120 tickets we raise $1200 for MS Tour
I will need to call and book this but before I do I'd like to hear any comments or questions that you may have. I'd also like a poll o what night of the week is best. I'm thinking a monday night since there are rides Tuesdays and Wednesdays but don't want to assume anything so please give me your ideas.
Thanks

Hi All
Just thought I'd recap on what was discussed tonight.
We will be joining the two MS groups, "Crusty's Crew" and "Roger's Angels"
into one big group for the MS ride this year.? We decided to keep the name
Roger's Angels.? Please look for or quote?the team name when registering on
line or calling in your registration.
Here's the link for the MS Society.? This is were you can register got the
tour.? We are registering for the Grand Bend to London Tour.
www.mssociety.ca
Thanks Angels...... just had to say it.... for taking many of us in.
Ideas spun around a little on a costume for the even.? There is recognition
for team spirit so at this point all ideas are welcome.? You know horns,
wings, halos......Dan B in some skimpy our fit.... It's really open.
Ideas also floated around group fundraising.? Most people seemed interested
in a Boston Pizza Fundraiser.? Ran also suggested a grocery Store BBQ.? I'll
contact the companies and get back to the group.? Others suggested that
maybe there is a way to get Competitive Edge involved.. I'll discuss that
with them this week as well... See if we can come up with something.? If
there are any other idea please forward them to me.
Something I forgot to ask... Can I get the names of people who are
interested helping out with group fundraising.? I'd like to have a small
group of people to help organize events if needed.? You know.. some "GO To"
people.
Thanks
Ann

Re: [CKcycle] [Fwd: Sizing of Jerseys]
by Daniel Brousseau
Hey everyone,
Just to let you know that Niko Apparel is having a concern with the
original sizing as it was from a different company.
See the email bellow.
They are sending us a Sizing Kit so we will need everyone to re check
their sizes.
Same like last time the kit will be at Smith Cycle and will need to be
returned to Niko Apparel ASAP
so the order does not get delayed too much.
I'm setting a reasonable deadline for next Wednesday April 21st for you
to get re fitted for just encase.
Failing to recheck your size, we will have no choice then to just judge
it by the Atac Sizing we had which
as per Claudia it is a concern as there is a BIG difference in the cuts.
So again I will be resending the sizing chart next Wednesday back to
Niko and for those that we have no new info,
we will do our best...
NOTE I will be getting the measurements this afternoon and will update
this email for those that just can't make it.
Also I will have the kit with me for this Wednesday Ride / MS Ride Group
Meeting 6:30PM (April 14th)
I shall be available as of 5:45pm at Competitive Edge with the Sizing
Kit for those that wish to check.
Cheers and sorry for the rush...
Dan

Hi Daniel,
As per our conversation today, I would like to follow up with you about the
difference in the sizing of the ATAC jersey vs Niko ones. As you already
know, I feel that our jerseys fit bigger than what your group is use to and
I have sent you Niko sizing samples for your group to try on. As we need to
keep this order moving along as quickly as possible I was wondering if this
could be resolved in the next few days with your group.
Please let me know when you receive the samples and if you have any further
questions.

Others suggested that maybe there is a way to get Competitive Edge involved.. I'll discuss that with them this week as well... See if we can come up with something. If there are any other idea please forward them to me.
Something I forgot to ask... Can I get the names of people who are interested helping out with group fundraising. I'd like to have a small group of people to help organize events if needed. You know.. some "GO To" people.
Thanks
Ann
