I think most or all have received notices about our United Way ride around
CK on September 8-9. Speaking with Stacey Devolder , campaign co chair, this
morning - she mentioned that she was looking for a good , gently used
hybrid or road bike that she could use , rather than her old clunker. She
would be happy to purchase such a bike - or if someone had something
appropriate to lend her for that time , it would be appreciated . She is
5'9" and slim if that gives some guidance as to what she would require.

Hey everyone,
Due the NCF List Serv (Group Mailing List) is acting up I am sending this to
everyone just encase you wish to join us.
The ride will be about 100km return trip and the departure time will be at
7:30am from Competitive Edge Gym.
This is not replacing the normal Sunday Ride that will happen the following
morning.
PLS reply back to Ann sydkneeca(a)yahoo.ca & sydkneeca(a)gmail.com (use both as
Yahoo also acting up) and let her know if you shall be riding with us or not
as we need to notify the local Restaurant of possible numbers so they don't
panic :-)
Again $10 should be ample but since we never went there I have no way of
being certain... Maybe bring your debit card just encase.

Close call with a dump truck today!!!

Well John you wanted us to report things we see or get involved with, here
is one and it it involves an office not enforcing the law.
Best of all I caught it on tape. No worries I am safe due to my commonsense
of slowing and swerving but still.
Location: Park Ave EAST in front of the OPP Station
Date Aug 24th 1:36pm
Traffic: Light
Weather Conditions: Partly Cloudy / Dry Roads
Details: Here I am doing my usual 30km route in town and on my last leg on
my way back in from Communication Road going about 39km/hr when this dump
truck decided to pull ahead of me.
You can see in the video I am pulling my left and up going what the heck...
costing and slowing down so I don't ram into the guy while swerving a bit to
get around him..
I'm certain that if I was a car going the same speed he would of never dared
to go as there would of been a collision.
As crazy as this maybe... here there was an OPP cruiser right behind him and
saw it and never did anything.
So it is obvious this officer would only enforce the law if there was a
collision... as if I recall this is a HTA violation of, proceeding while
falling to provide reasonable time to avoid collision.
Video is small as I had to compress it for email.. but look at the screen
shots and you shall see how of a close call this was...
Now don't forget here I am needing to coast and slow down at the same time
just to avoid collision with this guy.

Chatham-Kent police reminds drivers to be patient and slow down when attending yard sales after a cyclist was nearly hit.
Police said on Saturday morning, a female citizen was riding her bicycle along McNaughton Avenue in Chatham in the designated bicycle lane.
As the cyclist approached a vehicle improperly parked in the bike lane to attend a yard sale, she was nearly struck when the driver opened the door to exit the vehicle.
Police said the driver was in a rush to get to the yard sale and didn't notice the cyclist.

The link is to the Letters to the Editor section of the Chatham Daily News
and concerns the accident that occurred on the 16th.
One question I have to council, given the reaction to the King Street
accident and the reaction via enforcement of no bicycles on the sidewalks,
can we expect the same when it comes to traffic enforcement on these rural
roads? This incident is the second within two weeks of motorists using the
side roads as a racetrack resulting in the injury of a cyclist. I mentioned
at the ACSC that one of our riders was run off the road by Maple City Golf
last week, resulting in a serious shoulder injury.
I, for one, will be asking all candidates in ward 6 for their opinion on
this matter. The one who has already been to my door gave the answer that he
is not impressed with traffic enforcement when it comes to motorist
interaction with cyclists. He has my vote.
I would suggest everyone do the same for the candidates in your ward, even
if they are going to be acclaimed.
