Interesting !!
I just replaced my 5 year old helmet because the foam started to crack all
over the place. I did have a very light hit (graze) on my helmet a couple of
years ago, but other than a few scratches on the surface, there were no
visible signs of damage. I would most certainly have replaced it if there
were. My take on this is that yes, they do break down over time and should
be replaced at the first sign of cracking.

group and a bunch of the tri-athletes.

Usually there is a date but MAX 2 years... many do use them for
longer but
it can be risky...

Regarding the date in the helmet and when the helmet expires. Is it a
certain period of time that elapses from the date in the helmet? Or does
the date in the helmet indicate the expiry date?
