DECEMBER PROGRAM
by Dell DeMeyer
[image: image.png]c
*HO HO HO~~A**nother month, another favorite for you to share with us!*
*Christmas is my favorite holiday and although this year it's becoming a
bit frustrating, I still am decorating and hoping to have my sorority
chapter here on the 14th for lunch and a gift exchange and a lot of
Christmas cheer. I am hoping you all are in the holiday mood and that you
will have a fantastic month of merry memories. Please answer the
following and share your favorites with us with as many details as you
want.*
*1. What is your favorite Christmas song of songs?*
*2. What is/are your favorite holiday activity/s?*
*3. Do you have a favorite family Christmas tradition?*
*4. What is your favorite holiday food? (includes dessert, candy, etc.)*
*That's it--not too much to elaborate on but fun for us to know what others
do at this special time of the year. Pictures are always fun, too. I'm
busy trying to get it all done so off to work I go, fa la lala la, la la la
la! Merry Christmas to all!*
*Love and holiday cheer,*

The format with Facebook isn't near as nice as AOL used to be for chatting but is similar. If enough members are interested, I could set up a group for messaging on Facebook. We could do a chat in the evening also. I have difficulty using Zoom. My computer is not set up with a microphone or camera and I prefer to leave it that way.

JANUARY PROGRAM--FAVORITES
by Dell DeMeyer
Reading was always my big thing as a young child and for most of my life,
but not anymore. I always liked romantic historical novels when I did read
as an adult, not much on factual literature. My favorites as a child were
the Nancy Drew series, Gone With the Wind, Laura Ingalls Wilder books,
etc. No special authors. Just don't find reading relaxing anymore so
think the last book/s I read were the 20 Janet Evonavitch series, which
were humorous but not very challenging! Always had a library card and read
everything in sight until married, children and back to teaching--then I
didn't have time. Last time I took a book to read on a plane trip, I read
the same page about 15 times, then decided I wasn't concentrating so put it
away and still don't remember what I read!!
I love to write and journalism was a favorite in college. I was always on
yearbook and newspaper staffs and still love to write anything that is
needed for sorority, convention openings and closings, newspaper articles
for the local paper, and cultural programs. I did win a Beta Sigma Phi
poetry contest as honorable mention years ago but other than that and many
writing classes I have never tried to publish anything.
I love to write crazy, silly poetry when giving an introduction for
somebody, installations or announcing woman of the year. I did have a BA
degree in education with a major in English, minors in commercial art and
journalism and taught 7th and 8th grade art for thirty years, of which I
had to use my English skills for 7th grade reading one period a day (after
they discovered my credentials allowed me to teach anything). I didn't
mind that but had to take several reading/writing workshops each year
through the U of Nevada and that also meant some writing classes which I
really liked. I was always a big letter writer, or maybe I was just
gabby--but sure like to put on paper what I am thinking!!
Not a big fan of comics except for Maxine and think she is a hoot. Used
to love Garfield too.
I hope some of you can share your favorite books with us--or if you belong
to a book club that would be interesting also.
Love and happy new year,
Dell

Happy Birthdays, Anniversaries and Special Days
by Connie Hayward
January birthstone is the garnet, which represents purity, truth and friendship. The flowers of January are the snowdrop and the carnation.
Born before January 20 are Capricorns, while people born toward the end of January have the sign of Aquarius. Capricorns are said to be very independent, disciplined, and organized, often making strong leaders. Aquarians are reportedly in touch with their emotions and have strong humanitarian instincts.
Additionally, you share January with some pretty sweet celebrity birthdays! There’s Elvis Presley (1/8), Eli Manning (1/3), Bradley Cooper (1/5), Oprah Winfrey (1/29), Martin Luther King Jr. (1/15), Betty White (1/17), Justin Timberlake (1/31), and Phil Collins (1/30) –just to name a few!!
Happy Birthday:
January 5- Kitt Huffaker
January 6- Jennifer Peck
January 22- Gail Alley & Sherri Neri
January 26- Ellen Bricker
January 28- Lynn Faragher & Wynona Johnson
January 29- Katherine Stubbs
January 31- Amy Schultz
Happy Anniversary:
January 2- Martha Ethridge
January 10- Jessie Hansen
Special Day:
January 1- Lea Norman
Happy Birthday, Happy Anniversary, and Happy Special Day!
I wish you all a very special, healthy and prosperous new year!
