Nepean High School - Parent Fundraising Gala
by NHSPC
Nepean High School - Parent Fundraising Gala
Parents, guardians, alumni and friends of Nepean High School are
cordially invited to support our first ever parent-organized
Fundraising Gala, taking place at the school on Thursday, November 20
from 7 - 10 pm.
The event has been carefully designed to not only raise funds, but
also to provide a festive atmosphere in which parents and other adult
members of the school community can mingle while enjoying delicious
international-themed hors d'oeuvres supplied by famed local caterer
Dave Smith. Live musical entertainment will be on hand as well,
including the renowned Ottawa jazz vocal group Quintessence,
featuring Nepean music teacher Jean-Francois Fauteux.
Silent and live auctions will take place throughout the evening;
anyone wishing to make a donation to enhance the collection of goods
and services on offer, or to sponsor the event to defray costs, is
encouraged to please contact Event Chair, Carolyn Montague, at
carolyn.montague(a)sympatico.ca.
We have worked with school staff to select three focus areas for this
year's event, which are Healthy Lifestyles and Athletics, the Arts
(Drama, Music, Visual) and Helping Student Success. Nepean's
dedicated teachers have come up with a "wish list" of the most urgent
needs, including additional materials such a weight bench and
accompanying weights, a power clean station, display showcases,
specialized chairs for musicians, design software for the Arts, Smart
Boards, Audio Books, guest speakers and more.
Representatives from Nepean's teaching staff will be on hand at the
Gala to explain these areas of need and reinforce why we as parents
are being asked to support the school's fundraising goals to ensure
an enhanced educational and extracurricular experience for all of
Nepean's 1200+ students. Donation stations will be set up to allow
you to earmark your contributions to support the focus area of your
choice.
Please note that tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door.
Donations and auction payments can be made by cash or cheque only and
tax receipts will be issued for all monetary contributions over $10.
Watch for more details on this exciting event throughout the fall.
Additional volunteers are also needed to make this event a success.
If you can spare a few hours to help out, please contact
carolyn.montague(a)sympatico.ca. All are welcome to attend the next
Gala planning meeting, being held in the school library at 7pm on
Thursday, September 25.
We are looking forward to seeing you at the Gala on November 20th!

Welcome Back to Nepean High School Council (2008/9 #1)
by NHSPC
Welcome back to Nepean High School for another year!
Here are a few announcements from the Nepean High School Council:
The first meeting and AGM of the Nepean High School Council will be
held at 7 pm on Tuesday September 16th in the School library. All
members of the NHS community are encouraged to attend. There are
vacancy on the Council which we hope to fill at the AGM. The NHS
Council is also seeking suggestions for possible guest speakers at
future Council meetings.
Mini-Timetable Night will be held on Thursday September 18th. This
event provides a great opportunity for parents to experience NHS from
their son or daughter's perspective. The event begins with a brief
presentation in the auditorium, followed by a compressed standard
schedule, thus allowing parents to meet all their son or daughter's
new teachers in a single evening. The event is a lot of fun and
there are many opportunities to get lost in Nepean famous maze of
hallways and floors. Further, details will be posted on the NHS web
site, http://www.nepeanhighschool.com/.
The NHS Council is holding their primary Gala Fund Raiser for the
year on November 20th. More details will be posted in due course at
http://nepeanhs.ocdsb.ca/parents/parent_news.html.
People who are interested in helping out at the November 20th Gala
Fundraising are invited to come to the Library at Nepean Thursday,
September 4 at 7pm. We need people who can help out both before and
the night of the event. Come and learn about our plans for what will
prove to be a great evening of fun. Please contact Carolyn Montague
<carolyn.montague(a)sympatico.ca> for more details.
Please also note, NHS Junior Jazz Band (Grade 9-10) - Call for Auditions
Are you grade 9-10 in the band program? Want to play in the Jr. Jazz
Band? Pick up your audition package with Mr F. in the Music room 12N!
Auditions will take place on September 15 to 19.
Parents are encouraged to regularly check Today's Announcements,
posted at http://www.nepeanhighschool.com/, for updates on what's
happening at NHS.
