Call all Ottawa-area Blues Musicians
by Liz Sykes
The Ottawa Blues Society’s Blues Artist Directory (BAD) – in previous
years a print publication – has become an on-line resource. This will
allow the OBS to make timely updates to the info, which we hope will
benefit musicians as well as those who make use of the BAD to obtain
contact info.
The current BAD is online at http://www.ottawabluessociety.com/blues-dir.php
Over the next few months, it will be revised to delete any
bands/musicians no longer in the Ottawa area; we would also like to add
new bands or musicians.
Inclusion criteria:
• resident of the Ottawa area (generally defined as approximately 100 km
radius; please contact me if you are unsure whether you meet this criterion)
• music played is generally blues, or blues-related (again, if you are
unsure whether you meet this criterion, please contact me)
Information required (all info will be posted to the website):
• Name (band or musician)
• Blues genre
• Contact name (and phone number if you wish)
• Contact email
• Website URL
For further information or to submit your information, please contact me

long list of gig venues Canada and Europe
by Bluesandjazzguy
As requested by Maria, I'm passing her exaustive gig research on for the benefit of other Ottawa musicians
who may be interested.
Jim Roy

Dear Jim,
Please encourage our local musicians to join book a band on facebook to get an up to date listing of venues both across Canada and Europe.
I am sending this along in hopes that anyone who does the research and comes up with street addresses, telephone numbers, contact people
and details ...that they will share that information back to me.
In these difficult times we must support each other. That was my purpose in setting up the blues society and this is why I am sharing this
information today. In order that we all become stronger, better and live longer loving our craft.
All the best

Fw: WE NEED YOU!

Subject: WE NEED YOU!
We need you to help make real our project of a co-operative of local jazz musicians operating a jazz club that hires local musicians for its programming. We have now received a pre-feasibility report from a co-operative consultant, for which we received funding from the Calgary-based Canadian Federation of Worker Co-ops.At our fifth meeting,we will study this report which starts to bring us into the domain of actual dollars and cents and concrete actions. As well,we will begin the next step, the feasibility study, and discuss collaboration with the Shine Foundation,a charitable organization devoted to music education which trumpet player Kelly Craig was instrumental in starting.
What we need most is to expand the circle of people that will help us make decisions. That is why we are inviting you and all local jazz musicians to the fifth meeting of the OJM Co-op Saturday,April 25th,at 1pm at the Bank Hotel in Hull,18 Eddy Street, near Promenade du Portage.
Hope to see you there. We need you.

Help save the CBC
by Bluesandjazzguy
The Canadian government has refused to provide loans to the CBC to cover its budget shortfall this year.
This is forcing the CBC and Radio Canada to drastically cut over 800 jobs as well as programming when
job creation is being touted by the same government.
The CBC is Canada's unifying force to bring together and connect its various regions, their cultures
and Canada's strengths in being at the forefront of a multi-cultural nation that can show the world
the way to be able to live together in spite of differences its citizens may have. This factor needs
to be supported by Canada's government, not lessened.
The CBC has been very supportive of local live music and other artistic endeavours in its programming
often featuring both the music of local artists and interviews in the morning and afternoon radio
shows with artists on their gigs. It would be unfortunate to lose this support through federal
budget cuts.
Click HERE if you agree and wish to sign the petition against these reductions.
