Ottawa Musicians List
by BluesAndJazzGuy
Well, the list seems to have considerably 'quietened down' from yesterday, eh!
(as I expected it would) :-)
So, after some 'deft accident prevention work' I did last night with the system options menus, I think I've managed to prevent another uns******** to the list melt-down vortex from taking place in future.
Don't mention the unmentionable uns********, in any listings. It won't get list members anything but a rejection notice now!
The right way to do the 'unmentionable' is to use the correct normal 'unmentionable' ;-) process at this link:
http://lists.ncf.ca/mailman/listinfo/ottawamusicians
(if you really have to and don't mind missing out on some good stuff due to a few initial
accidents!) ;-)
Anyway, if you review the latest update on the purpose and aims of the list and what it is not intended for because there are better options with the Ottawa Blues, Jazz & Swing Guide, I think this will deal with all of the concerns expressed yesterday.
These were mainly caused by the uns******** to the list melt-down vortex that took place as I didn't have enough accident prevention in place. Who knew so many intelligent people would pick the wrong process!!??
For those uns********ees that I've bccd here, if your only withdrawal from the list was based on what took place while the list was going through its initial growing pains and not other good reasons, I invite you to subscribe at some later time and give the list another chance.

Use of New Mailing Lists Ottawa Musicians List Service & Ottawa Blues & Jazz List Service
by BluesAndJazzGuy
Hi All,
It's early days and there may be some growing pains with the new list
services so some patience with the process may be needed. This is to
help clarify the use and purpose of each list.
Some musicians have been posting their special events on the Ottawa Musician
list while they would be better posted on ottawabluesandjazz(a)lists.ncf.ca.
This has resulted in some unsubscriptions.
The ottawabluesandjazz(a)lists.ncf.ca has 360 recipients including musicians
and music fans so will get better coverage for your special events.
Use of the ottawabluesandjazz(a)lists.ncf.ca list should still however be kept as
much as possible to your special events to not flood everyone on the list including
musicians. This may result in people unsubscribing and defeat the purpose of
spreading the word as widely as possible on your gigs.
My Ottawa Blues & Jazz Guides On-line Newsletter and the DIY calendar
on my site, where used to list your gigs, will cover both your regular and
special events for the most part. I draw on the DIY calendar to produce
the newsletter.
The Ottawa Musician list is comprised of the approx 160 musicians I
e-mail once per month or so to remind you to review your gigs listed
on the DIY calendar or provide you with guidance on how to use it.
It's mainly intended as a general communication channel between me,
musicians and musicians representatives who post your gigs to the
DIY calendar. Both lists are similar to lists like MapleBlue.
There is a Digest option to reduce the number of individual e-mails
if the volume becomes more than you want. Just let me know at
bluesandjazzguy(a)ncf.ca and I'll put you on a digest version for
either or both lists.

More on New list service for Ottawa Musicians
by BluesAndJazzGuy
Hi All,
Here's a bit more detail on this new service for musicians provided by National
Capital Freenet.
If you're not on the list (if you got this, you are), you or other Ottawa
musicians can subscribe to it.
This will allow you to receive my and other notifications about gig listings,
musician services and other updates, post your own info to the list, find
e-addresses of other musicians you may wish to contact on the list and
hear about other topics in which you may have an interest.
The process to subscribe or unsubscribe, post etc. is at this LINK
http://lists.ncf.ca/mailman/listinfo/ottawamusicians
You'll need a password issued by the system to do an unmoderated posting and
take advantage of things like accessing the subscriber e-addresses. Here's
the link to get your own password reminder if you haven't already received
one from the system: http://lists.ncf.ca/mailman/options/ottawamusicians
Please note my new E-address: ottawabluesandjazzguy(a)ncf.ca and if you have
any questions or run into problems with this new service, e-mail me and I'll
do my best to deal with them.
