Here is a sampling of live music opportunities listed this week of note on the
Ottawa Blues, Jazz & Swing Guide calendar:
a.. Wednesday, 11 Feb
- Enjoy Wednesday Night Jazz with Tim Bedner Guitar, Mark Alcorn, Baritone Guitar and
Marilee Townsend, Drums, with special guest Zakari Frantz on Alto Sax. It's on every
Wednesday in February at Café Nostalgica.

- The open Mic Acoustic Jam continues at Bass Line Station with a cocktail party to
reopen
the venue since it's LLBO closedown issues since 1 Feb. This is a fairly small
licenced capacity venue
so be prepared to be counted in whether access is available.
b.. Thursday, 12 Feb,
- NEW! - Peter Liu and the Jazz Mutants present "Jazz Evolution", a new
monthly
event at The New Bayou with a different jazz band each month to play an opening
set. One or two individual instrumentalists/vocalists are also invited to perform with
the Jazz Mutants in the following two sets, with a requirement to attend at least

- The Stellar Cast Blues Showcase continues at Irene's hosted by Mike Ktenas and
Corky
Kealey, with weekly guest hosts and sit-ins by Ottawa's best roots musicians. This
week
the jam is hosted by JW-Jones.
- Enjoy weekly jazz w/Tim Bedner & Elise Letourneau at Café Paradiso.
- There's a weekly open Mic Electric Jam at Bass Line Station.
Saturday 14 Feb,
- Celebrate Valentine's Day by listening to romantic South American music at
Mercury Lounge. Alicia Boronick and her band offer a blend of traditional
Argentinean music, tangos with contemporary sounds, electronic beats, infused
with the richness of violin and accordion.

INTERNATIONAL BLUES CHALLENGE UPDATE
Ottawa's own MonkeyJunk (the only Canadian band to reach the finals) placed 3rd at the
International Blues Challenge, held in the Orpheum Theatre in Memphis TN on Saturday
afternoon, February 7, 2009. Approximately 100 bands competed in the semi-final rounds at
ten Beale Street venues and and ten, one from each club, advanced to the finals.
Twelve bands not advancing to the finals were chosen by their venues to compete in the
Beale Street Blues Kings competition at the New Daisy Theatre Saturday night.
Toronto's Johnny Max Band was one of four winners in this event.
