These are just a few live music opportunities this week to consider:
a.. Tuesday 28 Oct, Adam Saikaley and Linsey Wellman at the Avant Garde Bar.
b.. Thursday 30 October, Jazz at Cafe Paradiso w/Tim Bedner & Elise Letourneau.
c.. Saturday 1 November, Jon Amor returns to Ottawa to perform with his band at Tucson's and The Brian Browne Trio will be filming and recording a DVD at the 4th Stage, NAC.

Annual CKCU Fund Raising for Blues and Jazz Radio - Long time hosts John Tackaberry (Black & Blues Sundays 9 to 11 pm), Ron Sweetman (In a Mellow tone - 9 to 11 pm Wednesdays) and Bernard Stepien (Rabble without a Cause - 11 pm to midnight Wednesdays) among other CKCU hosts from Friday October 24 until Sunday November 9 will be asking listeners for their help in reaching a goal of $108,000 this year.

Blues and Jazz and Other Possibilities This Week - Update

This is an update to include Making Necropheliac on Friday and Saturday besides the other live music already highlighted for the week.
A few items of note to consider this week:
a.. Tuesday 14 Oct, If you're in or near The Atlantic in Alexandria ON Terry Gillespie and the Granary Band (Stephen Barry, Jody Golcik,Gord Adamson, Peter Measroch) Blues on Tues 7 pm - 10 pm (Be in bed by 11) Put on your wheels and Dance Glide across the floor The Band will cry for More! $10 cover.
b.. Wednesday 15 October, Candle Light Acoustic Music with Jeff Rogers. Every Wednesday
Enjoy the soulful piano and vocal stylings of Jeff Rogers. Jeff Rogers has been a featured local performer at Bluesfest, and has received critical reviews with his musical projects that range from duelling piano to a full out grooving band. Don't miss seeing Jeff's extraordinary talent! No Cover!
c.. Thursday 16 October, JazzWorks Monthly Jam Session - 8:00 p.m. to Midnight
Cover/Admission: $5.00 at The New Bayou.All proceeds will go to support Jazzworks monthly jam sessions and the summer workshop, including the two annual scholarships awarded to deserving students.
d.. Friday & Saturday, 17 & 18 October, Making Necrophiliac - A Musical Comedy - Something different, musical theatre to die for. Live music by Guy Del Villano, with Fabulous Doo-Wop Gals Francine (Francine and Friends) and Amanda Strawn (Amanda Strawn Trio). A stellar cast, and a wickedly funny story, for everyone old enough to know better ... but young enough to dream.

New 'DAWG' in town! - The CRTC has granted DAWG FM, CIDG 101.9 an all-blues radio station in Ottawa scheduled to begin broadcasting in spring 2009. Click Press Release for more.
News on the Arts Support Blues - These are two links providing an update on certain recent campaign rhetoric, Ottawa Citizen article by Peter Hum and on 'Ordinary Canadians' support for the arts, a responding Facebook Group now at about 61.335 members since its origin a couple of weeks ago.

A few items of note to consider this week:
a.. Today 6 Oct, Three sets from some of the area's best young players. The music and fun sometimes doesn't stop until 2 AM at Le Petit Chicago, Hull, QC with Brian Asselin - tenor sax, Jeff Asselin, drums, Alex Mastronadi, bass and Zakari Frantz on sax.
b.. Tuesday 7 October, Mississippi Blues Society hosts two Blues Jams with Barry Buse, Al Tambay and guests, one at Thirsty Moose, Carleton Place and the other at Elmdale House in Ottawa.
c.. Wednesday and Thursday 8 & 9 October, Bass Line Station hosts first an acoustic jam and then on Thursday an electric jam.
d.. Thursday 9 October, the Stellar Cast Blues Showcase is at Irene's, 885 Bank St. Hosted by Mike Ktenas and Corky Kealey. Featuring sit-ins by Ottawa's best roots and blues musicians. This week - Dean Dupuis.
e.. Thursday 9 October, Not a musical event but a hike from Kingston to Ottawa by musician, Mike Lush of the "Still Dangerous" band to collect money to fight cancer. More HERE.

Memphis Blues Challenge Outcome - Liz Sykes reports that after two semi-final rounds (Wednesday, September 24 & Wednesday, October 1), four Ottawa area bands advanced to the Finals on Thursday, October 2. The judges chose MonkeyJunk to be the OBS representative at
the International Blues Challenge, February 4-7, 2008 in Memphis TN. Congratulations to Steve Marriner, Tony D and Matt Sobb.
