Some Upcoming Events of Interest the Week of 15 June 2008

Besides the other many good events to catch this week by our great local acts on the calendar, there are these notable events:
a.. Tuesday 17 June, Mississippi Blues Society has its weekly Ottawa Blues Jam with hosts Barry Buse and guest hosts - 8:30 pm at Elmdale House - 1084 Wellington St. also on Thursday 19 June, Mississippi Blues Society hosts a Blues Jam with Pat Grenier and guest hosts - 8:30 to 11 pm at Keith's Pub, Arnprior.
b.. Wednesday 18 June:
c.. Pianist John Steele is joined by bassist Chris Breitner for an evening of swingin' standards at Café Paradiso.
d.. Enjoy the soulful piano and vocal stylings of Jeff Rogers Candle Light Acoustic Music at Tucson's this and every Wednesday.
e.. Thursday 19 June, JazzWorks has its monthly Jam Session - 8:00 p.m. to Midnight
at The New Bayou, 1077 Bank Street and Victor Nesrallah hosts Irene's Blues Jam.
f.. Friday 20 June:
g.. Jazzfest begins its 10 day stay at Confederation Park and other sites.
h.. 17 year old blues phenom Jimmy Bowskill will be playing a selection of songs from his old albums, as well as from his new self-titled album at Ottawa's legendary blues venue, The Rainbow.
i.. Join Becky Abbott at for another fun night at Tucson's. Becky has had the privilege and versatility to try her hand at just about every musical style she wanted to over the years. But it's her natural affinity and god-given talent for all-out rock and roll, that has set this stunning singer apart.
j.. Enjoy Jazz with Stephen Szawlowski and guests at The Dragon's Lair Riverview Restaurant, 28 Clothier St. E. Lower level, Kemptville, Friday and Saturday.
k.. Saturday 21 June:
l.. Loud Love returns to Tucsons by popular demand! An excellent, tight, original sound guaranteed to get you moving!! In a world where many bands go to great lengths to describe their "sound", Loudlove chooses to simply invite you to listen to their music and make up your own mind as to what they are. They have been described as powerful, honest and genuine. Loudlove is a band with rock, reggae, blues and many other influences but have our own distinct sound.

Some Upcoming Events of Interest the Week of 8 June 2008

Besides the other many good events to catch this week by our great local acts on the calendar, there are these notable events:
a.. Wednesday 11 June to Sunday 15 June,
Five years since its debut, and still FREE!, WESTFEST has been extended to five days To mark this achievement. The festival's prime focus this year will be "A Celebration of Canadian Aboriginal Women in Music." An estimated 50,000 people will stroll through the community of Westboro Village taking in music, visual art, theatre, literary readings, dance, spoken word, and performance art on Richmond Road, between McRae and Golden Avenues, in Ottawa. For acts and timing, see schedule on the web site.
b.. Wednesday 11 and Friday 14 June, Souper Jazz is first on Sparks St. Mall at the Kent St. kiosk - near Bank of Canada and then at Westfest Friday. Listen to some enthusiatic live traditional/dixieland jazz and if the spirit moves you, feel free to make a donation to a worthy local cause.
c.. Friday 13 June, FATHEAD, a multi-award winning band that has played the top blues rooms, concert halls and music festivals from coast to coast is at Tucson's. Their music is steeped heavily in the blues, married with elements of r&b, funk and soul, and possesses a unique ensemble sound that is immediately recognisable as their own. They have recently won a Juno for 2008 Blues Recording of the Year "Buliding Full of Blues"
d.. Saturday 14 June, Wicked Grin appears at Tucson's. Formed in late 2003 around the fierce vocals and stellar guitar work of Murray Kinsley and driven by the rhythm section to die for of Leigh-Anne Stanton and Richard Wielusiewicz, Wicked Grin combines blues, groove, rock and a little funk to give you "Blues With Bite".

Besides the other many good events to catch this week by our great local acts on the calendar, there are these special events:
a.. Friday 6 June,
Enjoy the traditional sounds of an 18 piece Big Band with saxes, bones, trumpets, and a swinging rhythm section. Imagine a few friends, a vintage ballroom and a veranda overlooking the water of the Ottawa River. The NEW MOON in JUNE - BIG BAND DANCE featuring Stan Clark & The CAPITAL SWING at, New Edinburgh Club Boathouse.
Conspiracy, a fun-loving band that plays the best of classic rock and R&B mixed with some of today's best tunes appears at Tucson's.
The Dragon's Lair in Kemptville each Friday and Saturday now features dinner and jazz with Stephen Szawlowski and guests.
b.. Saturday 7 June,
Tangerine Jazz is back at Jazz'oo. with the old jazz standards, tangerine style: fresh and sweet. Tangerine is: BettyAnn Bryanton, vocals, Chris Thompson, bass and Greg White, keyboard.
Ace clarinettist Scott Poll is joined by pianist John Steele for a duo evening of
swingin' jazz standards at Café Paradiso.
Helen Glover is at Diwali, formerly Roses Cafe and now under new management that
continues to feature a variety of jazz performers each week.
Bluestone, a distinctive young rock band featuring two lead guitarists, sister and brother Angie and Ben Russell, appears at Tucson's.
