I'm following up about Canada's ambassadors of cutting edge diaspora roots music and JUNO nominees, Jaffa Road, who will be performing at the TD Ottawa International Jazz Festival on Canada Day!
I've provided a copy of the press release below for consideration.
Wondering if it may be possible to let your readers know about their appearance and if there may be interest in an interview/profile and CD giveaways.
Many thanks for considering Jaffa Road and looking forward to hearing from you, even if it's not workable.
Warm regards,

[Ottawa ON] Canada's ambassadors of cutting edge diaspora roots music and JUNO nominees, Jaffa Road, take their electrifying onstage chemistry, pulsating world-jazz-dub grooves, and ambient electronic textures to the TD Ottawa International Jazz Festival on Canada Day!
Jaffa Road is much more than a pleasing collision of world music -- Jaffa Road serve up a rich aural soundscape that grants the listener an escape to places familiar, yet unknown. The Middle East? India, North America? Difficult to place because it's a true fusion of Diaspora Roots music & Middle Eastern and Jewish folk music descended from its original Hebrew, following its cultural displacement to Europe, America, Asia and all points beyond.
The group has created a unique sonic landscape that draws easily and organically from the worlds of sacred and secular Jewish songs, modern jazz, rock, pop, and dub. In doing so, the group creates a union that is at once acoustic and electronic, secular and sacred, ancient and modern.
This award winning group Lead vocalist Aviva Chernick enchants with spellbinding vocal explorations, as founder and multi-instrumentalist Aaron Lightstone, Chris Gartner, Sundar Viswanathan and Jeff Wilson blend guitar, oud, sax, flute, bansuri, bass, driving percussion and exhilarating improvisations to arrive at an other-worldly destination that embraces the music of many countries, as it courts dub reggae, funk and electronica along its path.
Traditional sounds meet free-form, if not the avant-garde as ancient and original Hebrew, Spanish and English poetry marries to core elements of jazz, and global folk styles, to create a true world fusion on a virtuosic scale.

Aug 5-7 - Edge of the World Music Festival - Haida Gwaii, British Columbia
"Their eclectic mix of world beat, jazz, and electronica has a combination of cultural elements that is a virtual peace plan for the Middle -East - their essence should be distilled and send to long feuding lands...Great musicianship, odd ball combinations of instruments, drone, funk, verve and melody all had a place in this refreshing mish mash of musical influences and styles...Highly recommended!"
The Distillery Jazz Festival
"When people ask if there's a Toronto sound, I'd point to groups like Jaffa Road that represent a mixing of different cultures with great musicianship. The group has the kind of creative eclecticism I'm thrilled to program at the Markham Jazz Festival".
The Markham Jazz Festival
"If Toronto had to pick one group to reflect the world music scene in that city, well Jaffa Road would definitely be in the running as musical ambassadors"
CBC Radio, Big City Small World
"Jaffa Road put on a fantastic performance and were undoubtedly one of the hits of the Ashkenaz Festival. They played to standing room-only-crowds and delighted all with their energetic performance and highly inventive fusion of traditional Jewish music influences with a variety of world music sounds. One of the exciting new additions to Toronto's thriving Jewish music scene."

To Friends of CBC Canadian Broadcasting .. please have your say to have your save of an important Canadian Unifying force
by Bluesandjazzguy
My letter to you
Hi,
CONs Big Lie ... Looking for a REAL Leader in Canadians' Future
While Canada's Conservative political father, John A. MacDonald created the CBC
to promote and tie together unity of Canadians, his current so called 'replacements',
essentially Stephen Harper and his 'CONs' over and over perpetuate their 'blue big lie'
on really what CBC is about, a journalistic service to all Canadians in their selection of
the politicians we may choose from.
The CBC, as I have been following for many years have relied on this very ethical journalistic
investigation and questioning of issues from all sides, Conservators, rightist, centrist and leftist
prospectives to make my choice of who to vote for whether Conservative, NDP, Liberal or Green.
Back before and during WWII, Hitler and his cohorts relied on the 'Big Lie' solution to
obtain the results he and his cohorts helped create THAT war. Currently, there are many 'Hot
Spots' in the Mid-east that may well, if unresolved, lead to WWIII.
Anyone who's a non-listener and suspect of any Friends of CBC radio in particular
have absolutely no idea of the importance John A. provided Canadians. I may not support
the current CONs and yet fully appreciate the unifying force John A. provided us.
Over the last several years, Canada has lost its former influence on our world stage due to
its absence of leadership on such important issues as climate change, human rights especially
involving, women, aboriginal so long promised amended rights yet undelivered and so many other
promises not kept by either the minority or so far current majority CONs indication have any
of intention to keep.
I've made my significant donation to this cause. Whether you, receiving this have the same or similar
appreciation it's your choice to fight keep 'Your CBC', in spite of any Conservatives 'Big Lie'
propaganda in the majority hands of Harper and supporters.
In my experience, local CBC programming has always been much more supportive than many other local
media of local live musical and other events.

Dear Jim,
By now you should have received my most recent letter, despite the current postal disruptions.
There’s a lot riding on FRIENDS’ continued success in our watchdog role during the months ahead. Further cuts to CBC’s already depleted funding are looming while, at the same time, every one of the CBC’s English-language broadcasting licences is up for renewal at the CRTC this year.
It is of the utmost urgency that we forcefully deliver the message to Prime Minister Stephen Harper that any move against the CBC will come at much too high a political price for his government.
FRIENDS depends solely on people like you and me who value public broadcasting and Canada’s cultural sovereignty to fund our work and participate in our campaigns.
If you have not already done so, please take a moment today to send along your donation. Even if it is delayed, we will receive your mailed gift.
Alternatively, using your supporter PIN (if known), you can make a highly secure online donation right now.
Yours sincerely,
Ian Morrison
