Early New Year Party Headsup
I plan to send a reminder on this 60th Birthday Blues Party for Don Gibbons closer to the date, but am sending it now for early planning and possible contact with Don in the meantime.
"Hi my name is Don Gibbons and I am turning 60 on Jan 2nd 2009. Since I've been playing drums all my life I have decided that the best way to celebrate my 60th birthday is by playing music with all my friends. I've booked the Elmdale Tavern on Wellington Street, just west of Parkdale from 8pm till closing. So far about 20 musicians have agreed to come and play and about the same number for an audience.
Would it be possible to get my party in the Jazz and Blues Guide for Jan 2nd 2009? It would really help me to reach out to people I haven't got contact information for. I'm trying to get it posted as many places as possible simply as Don Gibbons 60th Birthday Blues Party.
Thanks if you can.

Local Arts News - Becky Abbott in Big Money Shot Final
Below is a report and request from Todd Littlefield of Diesel Entertainment on Becky's shot at the prize this past Friday at Capital Music Hall.
"I want to thank everyone who came out to support Becky Abbott last night for her performance in the Round 3 Finals of the Big Money Shot at Capital Music Hall last night!
Harpoon ended up winning last night by the very slightest of margins over Becky.
That said, the judges agree that Becky Abbott absolutely deserves to be performing in the Grand Final and you the fans can make that happen!!
Fans can text BECKY ABBOTT to 885885 as many times as you like. Voting starts today (November 15th) and goes until Sunday, November 23rd.
The top 5 bands, as decided by the texts, will compete in the Grand Final Wildcard concert on Nov 28th. The top two bands that night, as decided by the judges, will be entered in the Grand Final on December 12.
We appreciate support and in spreading the word to as many people as possible. We look forward to having Becky put on a killer performance for you in the Wildcard Final!
Thanks Again,
Todd"

Local Arts News - Ottawa festivals to lose all city funding under planned cuts - Looks like more planning shortsightedness by Ottawa City in its past record of being near the bottom of Canadian cities of per capita support of the arts; this time cutting off more local business revenue generating and tourist friendly festivals in the interests of meeting an arbitrary and narrow bottom line aim.

4 Nov 2008
Here are some live music opportunities this week to consider on the Ottawa Blues, Jazz & Swing Guide calendar:
a.. Tuesday 4 Nov, Mississippi Blues Society's two Blues Jams at the Thirsty Moose, Carleton Place and at Elmdale House in Ottawa.
b.. Wednesday 5 November, Candle Light Acoustic Music with Jeff Rogers and with Al Tambay on Thursday 6 November at Tucson's.
c.. Friday 7 Nov, Random rocks Mother McGintey's.
d.. Saturday 8 Nov, Kellylee's performance last fall at Black Sheep Inn was a real 'happening'.
After last year's sold-out show, singer-songwriter Kellylee Evans returns November 8th to the beloved venue to debut the songs she has recorded for her upcoming CD, "The Good Girl". The album is slated for release in early 2009 and once again features original material written by Evans. And, much like her first album, the music is an eclectic mix touching on soul, jazz, R & B and world music styles.
