SANKOFA
A Youth Concert
On Sunday June 3rd at 4pm, the Black Sheep Inn in Wakefield, Quebec will
host Baobab Youth Performers in an all-ages drum and dance performance.
SANKOFA is the Ghanaian Adinkra symbol which means “return and get it”.
This African proverb advises that you need to return and honour your past, as it will
inform your future endeavors and directions. To that end, we will be
inviting Baobab Youth alumnae to participate in the event.
The symbol is that of a bird looking backwards while moving forward.
This is the first annual SANKOFA concert.
Baobab Youth Performers engages students from all over the capital region to perform the
vibrant music and dance of Ghana.
Since being founded in 1995, the group has performed for many audiences from the National
Arts Centre, to Ottawa Bluesfest,
to Blue Skies Music Festival to the town square in Elmina, Ghana.
They continue to give back to development causes in Ghana.
