SINGER KELLYLEE EVANS PERFORMS IN FUNDRAISER FOR SAINT BRIGID'S CENTRE FOR THE ARTS
& HUMANITIES
Juno-nominated singer-songwriter Kellylee Evans makes a hometown stop on her winter tour
in Ottawa on Saturday, February 7th to perform at a fundraiser in support of newly
re-furbished Saint Brigid's Centre for the Arts & Humanities . She will be
performing songs from her upcoming CD, "The Good Girl". The album is slated for
release in early 2009 and once again features original material written by Evans. And,
much like her first album, the music is an eclectic mix touching on soul, jazz, R &B
and world music styles. This performance will be a special treat for Evans and audiences
as it takes place on Evans' birthday and will be recorded for CBC Canada Live. This
will be the 2nd year that Kellylee will spend her birthday with hometown audiences and the
CBC. Last year, Kellylee celebrated her birthday with Canada Live at the Canadian Museum
of Civilization.
Evans has recently appeared on two new albums, contributing songs and performances to Jane
Bunnett's Embracing Voices (EMI) and to the star studded tribute to Canadian poet and
songwriter Bill Hawkins, Dancing Alone (True North). She has been nominated for a 2009
Canadian Smooth Jazz Award for Best Female Vocalist, an award she took home in 2007. She
is also journeying to Washington, DC on January 20th to perform in a special gala
celebrating the inauguration of President Barack Obama.
Evans has been earning rave reviews for her soulful music and charismatic performances
since her second place win at the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocals Competition in
2004. The judges for the competition included Quincy Jones, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Al
Jarreau. With the release of her debut album, "fight or flight?", her music has
been reaching out across the world, garnering her praise, national radio play and strong
sales.
Since releasing her debut album in May 2006, Evans has been nominated for a 2007 Gemini
Award (for Best Performance or Host in a Variety Program or Series) and for a 2007 Juno
Award (for Jazz Vocals).
