In the last issue of Constructive Points, we congratulated all Carleton
grads, but we forget to mention another CUDS member who is graduating this
year. We apologize for the omission. If we have omitted anyone else,
please e-mail vpcom(a)carletondebate.org.
- Liam Lynch
Liam Lynch has been involved with CUDS during his four years at Carleton
and has been a mainstay of the club throughout. He has served as the
Secretary-Treasurer in the 2002-2003 academic year in addition to
providing help whenever the club needed it. Liam also has the distinction
of being one of the first members of this incarnation of Carleton debating
to break at a CUSID tournament, the Guelph North American Novice Open, in
2001.
Liam is graduating with an Hons. BPAPM. In the fall, he will be attending
Carleton part-time to serve as the CUSA Vice-President Internal.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
On behalf of CUDS, I would like to extend my congratulations to former
members who will graduate at the spring convocation ceremonies.
- Michael Dewar
Michael Dewar has been involved in CUDS throughout for all four years of
his undergraduate degree. Mike provided wise insight and ideas regarding
the clubs direction, serving on the executive in 2001-2002 academic year.
Upon graduation, Mike will be attending the University of Illinois, where
he will be pursuing a Ph.D in mathematics on scholarship.
While at Carleton, Mikes academic achievements were remarkable, and this
success will be recognized this spring where has been awarded this years
University Medal in Mathematics in addition to his Hons. B.Sc. in
Mathematics.
- Michael Powell
Mikes contribution to CUDS has been outstanding, serving two terms as
President and once as Vice-President Debate. He also played a large role
in CUDS rise in presence on campus and among the Canadian university
society for intercollegiate debate (CUSID). Mike also played a
considerable role in CUDSs annual debating tournaments, including both
the Xerxes cup, and the Lord Dorchester Cup. As a culmination of his
contribution, Mike played a pivotal role in CUDS being awarded the
Carleton University Students Associations 2003-2004 club of the year
award.
Mike was also successful in competitive debating, where he proved to be
one of the top teams in Canada, placing seventh at the 2002-2003 National
Championships.
In the fall, Mike will be pursuing an M.A. in history at Carleton on
scholarship. Mike is graduating with a Hons. B.A. in History.
- Mike Fleming
Mike has been involved with CUDS for the last three years and served as
Secretary-treasurer in the 2003-2004 academic year. Mikes served as
Tournament Director at the 2003 Xerxes cup and assisted at numerous other
CUDS functions. Mike also competed on the competitive circuit, where he
was successful at the 2002 Central Canadian Novice Championships, placing
seventh.
Mike is graduating with a Hons. Bachelor of Commerce (honours) degree with
a concentration in finance and is working with the federal government.
- Ben Campbell
Ben became a CUDS member in September 2003 and was quickly elected to the
executive as novice representative. Ben was also an asset where he
assisted at both CUDS tournaments.
As a competitive debater, Ben represented Carleton at numerous
tournaments, and placed in the top ten teams at his first tournament. Ben
also attended the Central Canadian championships and the National
championships.
Academically, Ben was extremely successful, and will be graduating with an
Hons. B. Eng.. Ben will be attending McGill University to complete an
M.Sc on scholarship.
CUDS would also like to wish good luck to Marian Sandilands, Raza Siddiqui
and Ben Piper as they will be pursuing studies elsewhere.
Marion will continue studying at McGill University, Raza at the University
of Toronto while Ben will be participating in a student exchange with
Edinburgh University for the 2004-2005 academic term.

CONGRATULATIONS TO MIKE DEWAR
Congratulations to CUDS member and soon-to-be Carleton alumnist Mike Dewar
on winning the University Medal in Mathematics. Mike will be pursuing
graduate studies at the University of Illinois next year.

Ah, yes. The tunnel mural. CUDS will finally get around to repainting
the mural this summer. If you are interested in helping out, please
