Debate: Final Show Debate of the Year
by Carleton University Debating Society
To close out an excellent year of show debates we are hosting one final one
with Catholic Campus Outreach this Thursday night at 7pm in Tory 342.
The Carleton University Debate Society (CUDS) and Catholic Christian
Outreach (CCO) are partnering to bring you a debate and discussion about
whether religion should keep up with the times.
The event will start with a debate featuring two national champions. The
debate will be focussed around the question "Should religion change to keep
up with the times". The evening will continue with a talk by pre-eminent
religious scholar Father Bob Bedard. Father Bedard has been a priest for
more than 50 years, and his charm and wit continue to delight audiences both
inside and outside the church. In 1985 he founded an order of priests called
'Companions of the Cross' which currently has 36 members. The Companions of
the Cross emphasize ongoing renewal of the Catholic Church through dynamic
evangelization. Father Bedard will speak about the ways he believes the
Catholic Church can change and the ways in which it cannot.
The evening will end with ample time for questions and comments about the
issues discussed. We hope to see everyone out and please join the Facebook
event and invite your friends!

Debate: Proxy Policy for the AGM
by Carleton University Debating Society
The tentative date for the CUDS AGM is April 4th at 4pm. This date will be
confirmed at the next business meeting. If this date is problematic for
everyone then please post on the CUSIDnet forum or e-mail
exec(a)carletondebate.org.
If you cannot attend the AGM, members with voting rights may submit their
vote through a proxy for all elections, constitutional amendments, and the
Annual General Meeting. Those seeking to submit a proxy must contact the
President and the Vice-President Administration no less than 2 days in
advance of the meeting. The onus will be on the member submitting a proxy to
ensure that it is received.
There are two types of proxies that you can submit. You can either give an
undirected proxy to any member with voting rights and empower them to vote
on your behalf. Alternatively you may submit a directed proxy to the
president and Vice-President administration. In this situation you can
instruct the president to vote on specific issues in the way you directed.
If you intend to submit a proxy please e-mail it to president@carletondebateand
vpa(a)carletondebate.org. Proxies cannot be submitted any other way.
