by cuds@lists.ncf.ca
CONSTRUCTIVE POINTS
1. Final results of the election
2. Final get-together
3. Graduating members
4. End of debate
1. The results of Wednesday's re-election are in, and the results are in.
President: Adam Coombs
VP Admin: Jordan Charboneau
VP Communications: Graham Pressey
VP Internal: Andrew Lawrence
VP External: Garnett Genuis
VP French: Yannick LePage
Thanks to everyone that came out and voted again.
2. CUDS is meeting up with U of O's EDS at the Blue Cactus tonight. If you
wish to come, please email the executive at exec(a)carletondebate.org. We're
meeting at the regular time and place and hopefully will get a round or two
in before heading out. There is also a potluck being held at Ben Piper's
house on the 15th. Please email Ben at benpiper(a)gmail.com if you are
planning on going, and let him know what course or dish you are planning on
bringing.
3. The debating year is closing, and along with the end of debating comes
the end of university. CUDS has several graduating members this year, and we
would like to thank them for the contributions that they made to the club.
We wish them luck.
- Damien Côté: Damien has been a member of the club for three
years. His laid back, some might say flippant, attitude has led him on bike
trips across Canada and Europe, Trudeau-esque voyages to various points of
the globe, and diamond mining in the arctic. His oratorical skill is also
impressive, and in his time at Carleton, he has debated in the quarter-final
at Central Novice in 2003, the final round of the 2004 French Nationals, and
the final round in the 2006 Ontario Engineering Debate Championships.
Damien will be heading to the University of Toronto next year for his M.A.
in economics.
- Dan Meester: Dan has dedicated himself to CUDS over the past
two years, this year as your esteemed VP Communications, and the author of
all the eloquent emails that you've been receiving. Dan has also held the
post of Director of Absences which, considering that our club has about
25-30 active members, means that Dan essentially directs somewhere in the
neighbourhood of 6 billion people. Dan will be taking this year off to go
enlighten the Chinese with the English language, before heading to study the
law in the future.
- Dan Moak: Dan has embodied dedication to the club over the
past four years. Showing up to countless meetings and heading to many
tournaments, Dan is always ready with a comment that absolutely no one else
understands. That being said, he holds the coveted position as the only
person in CUDS to win a round he wasn't even debating in. Dan will be
heading to York University next year to begin an M.A. in Critical Disability
Studies.
- Sasha Mandi: Sasha has joined the club this year, and in
short time managed to debate his way into the final of the Ontario
Engineering Debate Championships. Sasha has been a strong contributor to
club meetings and events this year, and we wish him the best as he goes on
to study the law next year.
- Ben Piper: What a joker... his biggest contribution was that
he kept Jordan in line.
4. Many thanks for everyone that came out throughout the year and
contributed to CUDS. While after today meetings are officially over, many
of the residents of Ottawa have expressed a desire to keep debating over the
summer. If you want to keep debating and are staying in Ottawa, please
contact them on the CUSIDnet forums. Once again, a big thanks to everyone
that came out this year, and we look forward to seeing everyone next year.
We will be sending out information about next year's debating when the new
school year comes around.

Important News about Re-voting
by cuds@lists.ncf.ca
CONSTRUCTIVE POINTS
1. Re-voting Information
1. The CUDS executive has found out that a proxy vote for the presidential
race at the AGM was not counted because the
president(a)carletondebate.orgemail account was full and bouncing
emails. Since the race was so close and
the missing proxy vote would have changed the outcome, it has been decided
that in the interest of fairness to both candidates, a re-vote will be held
for next year's CUDS president. Additionally, because the constitution
allows unsuccessful presidential candidates to run for other positions, it
will be necessary to have a re-vote for the remainder of the executive as
well.
The re-vote for all positions will be held this coming Wednesday evening,
April 5th, at the regularly scheduled meeting time and place. Voting will
be open to all eligible members, and those not able to attend can relate
instructions regarding proxy votes (either directed or undirected) by email
to BOTH the president ( president(a)carletondebate.org) and the VP admin (
vpadmin(a)carletondebate.org) or in person to either.
Any questions regarding eligibility, voting procedure, or proxy voting can
also be sent to the president or VP admin. We hope to see you out.
