*Waterloo Debate Death Trudge*
Yup, there's one more tournament this year. * May 13th - May 15th*
marks the end of semester *Waterloo Debate Death Trudge*, which
features a straight 24 hours of debate! Bring out your craziest,
most insane cases for one of the most fun tournaments of the year.
If you would like to attend the tournament, please e-mail the
Executive at exec(a)carletondebate.org by *April 20, 2005*.
Please note that this is a self-funded tournament with a
registration fee of $25/person (less than the club's tournament
participation fee). Visit our CUSIDnet forum for more details (see
http://www.carletondebate.org/cusidnet for information on how to get
access).
*Annual General Meeting*

*End of Year Meetings*
With the academic year winding down before exams and everyone
getting busy finishing off those last few assignments, we will be
scaling back our meetings to one per week. Starting this week,
meetings will be held on *Fridays at 4pm in 405 Dunton Tower*. We
will not be holding Tuesday meetings for the rest of the semester.
*Annual General Meeting*
The end of the year also means that we will be having our Annual
General Meeting on *April 6 at 6pm in 520 Southam Hall*. We will be
discussing constitutional and by-law amendments, executives will
give their year-end reports, and elections for next years elections
will take place. All paid members of the club are eligible to vote,
but all are welcome to attend. With a new student levy on the books
next year, this year's AGM will be important in determining club
policy for future years.
For those considering running for an executive position, we request
you post a platform on CUSIDnet at
http://www.cusid.ca/community/viewforum.php?f=29. See
http://www.carletondebate.org/cusidnet for information on how to get
access.
If you cannot make the meeting, we will allow proxy votes.
For more information visit http://www.carletondebate.org/agm. The
website includes election platforms and the agenda for the meeting.
If you have any questions, or wish to propose a motion, feel free to
contact the Executive at exec(a)carletondebate.org.
*CUDS to host 2006 CUSID National Championships*
University debating clubs from across Canada have chosen Carleton
University to host the 2006 National University Debating Championships.
Delegates at this year's championships, held last weekend at the
University of Alberta, selected the Carleton University Debating
Society in a decisive vote over their cross-town rivals and recent
World Championship winners at the University of Ottawa's English
Debating Society. Carleton received 22 votes against Ottawa's four.
Over the coming weeks, we will posting a call for applications for
tournament positions. Stay tuned.

Carleton University Debating Society AGM
*
The fifth CUDS Annual General Meeting will take place on April 6, 2005
at 6:00pm (location TBA). The AGM is where you can put your mark on the
club by deciding on club policy, direction, and of course, electing next
years executive members. The following motions are currently scheduled
for debate:
* Executive structure changes
* Changes to voting privileges
* Changes to conditions of membership
You can see full descriptions of the motions at
http://www.carletondebate.org/agm. Please note that any motion that
calls for a change to the CUDS Constitution must be approved by
two-thirds of the members present at the AGM. See
http://www.carletondebate.org/constitution for the CUDS Constitution and
http://www.carletondebate.org/bylaws for the CUDS By-Laws.
To introduce a motion, please post the motion on CUSIDnet at
http://www.cusid.ca/community/viewtopic.php?t=7002, or raise the motion
at the appropriate time at the AGM.
*Executive Elections*
Following debate on motions, we will have the elections for the
2005-2006 Executive. If the motion on executive structure changes is
successful, the following positions will be elected: *President, VP
Administration, VP Communications, VP Internal, VP External*. If the
motion is not successful, we will elect the following positions:
*President, VP Communications, VP Debate, VP Fundraising,
Secretary-Treasurer*.
See http://www.carletondebate.org/agm for full descriptions of the
positions.
Any member of the Society may stand for election and may run for up to
two positions. If the candidate is successful in his/her first attempt,
he/she will be dropped from the remaining ballots.
In addition, we will be electing the following non-voting executive
members: *Xerxes Cup Tournament Director, Lord Dorchester Cup/CUSID
National Championships Tournament Director*. Candidates may run with an
additional person as Tournament Co-Directors.
