CU Debating Society: Vote for a Novice Representative and Attend Upcoming Tournaments

CU Debating Society (CUDS) Member, Novice Representative During next week's CUDS meetings on Wednesday, October 15 and Friday, October 17, CUDS members who have paid their $5 membership fee will have the opportunity to vote for the novice representative of their choice through a secret ballot. The Novice Representative works for the concerns of new and inexperienced CUDS members. It is helpful to have a novice on the executive to point out areas where CUDS can improve. If you still wish to declare your intention to stand for this position, and have not already done so, email the CUDS executive. Want to attend tournaments this month? CUDS will attend three tournaments later this month: a.. University of Ottawa's Father Guindon Cup, October 17-19, is the "Worlds Preparatory Tournament" in British Parliamentary Style. It will provide a good introduction for those without significant experience in this format of debate (CUDS usually debates in Canadian Parliamentary format), as well as those experience in the format. More Information. b.. The University of Toronto's Hart House Invitational tournament occurs October 24-26. More information on this British Parliamentary tournament. c.. Queen's Chancellor's Cup is October 31-November 2 this year. Come on out and debate this Halloween! More Information. If you would like to attend any of these tournaments, email the CUDS executive. Please list what tournaments you would like to attend. The CUDS executive will select those who are attending which tournaments at the next business meeting (Wednesday, October 15). Feel free to apply for several tournaments. See how these tournaments fit in CUDS' year-long schedule. We charge you $20 per tournament that you attend. This fee includes transportation, accommodation, and tournament registration. Tournaments generally provide breakfasts, lunches, one dinner, and some drinks, for free. Volunteer for CUDS High School Tournament CUDS members who are subsidized to attend tournaments are required to volunteer to help with one of the tournaments that we host. The Annual CUDS high school tournament, the Xerxes Cup, is fast approaching. It is held on November 21 and 22 this year. If you are interested in more information about volunteering for this tournament, visit the official tournament web site or email the tournament director.
