CONSTRUCTIVE POINTS
1) Novice Training Day
2) Applying to Worlds
3) CUSIDnet
4) Central Novice Championships
1) Novice Training day is on Saturday, September 16th, starting at 10:00 and
going until approximately 4:00 in room 360 of the Tory Building. This year
we are partnering up with the University of Ottawa. This will give novices
a chance to meet debaters from other schools and get into the debating
scene. There will be a show debate with several top debaters from Carleton
and Ottawa U and we will be giving seminars about British Parliamentary
debating. We will provide samosas, pizza, and drink. All debaters are
strongly encouraged to attend.
2) Our application process for selecting debaters for the Worlds University
Debating Championship has been extended until Sunday. If you are
interested, please email us at exec(a)carletondebate.org with your top three
debating tournament results. If you are interested in applying, but have
not debated in high school, don't worry. We are having a debate-off to
select debaters going to Worlds.
3) At Carleton University Debate Society, we strongly believe that people
should be able to argue and debate topics any time they like. To help that
need, there are the CUSIDnet forums. Most, if not all of our senior
debaters have signed up to the forums. It provides a good atmosphere in
which to discuss current events, politics, history, debating cases, or
pretty much anything else. Most of the information regarding tournaments
will be posted on it. We have a private university forum at
www.cusid.ca/community. Simply sign up and send a private message to our
moderators -Graham Pressey and Padraic Ryan- to be allowed access into the
forum.
4) The annual Central Novice Championships will be held this year by the
University of Toronto's Hart House. The tournament will be on September 22,
23, and 24. More information regarding this tournament will be forthcoming.
