Hi everyone,
Hope everyone's school has started off magnificently - a few upcoming issues
and events that should be brought to your attention:
1) Selection for the World University Debating Championship in Dublin,
Ireland
Interested in going to Ireland this Christmas? Selection for WUDC 2006 in
Dublin, Ireland will be taking place on Friday, September 23rd at the club
meeting. If you are interested in attending WUDC 2006, please inform the
executive of your intentions via email (exec(a)carletondebate.org) or by
posting on CUSIDnet.
Criteria for selection of the two debaters that will be send to World's will
be based 50% on previous university debating scores and 50% on a debate-off.
For more information on the selection process, check out
http://www.carletondebate.org/wudc_tsp. Also, if you're interested in news
straight from Ireland, the WUDC 2006 website is
http://www.pgcareerswudc.com.
2) Elections for Vice-president External and Novice Representative
The election for the position of Vice-president External (VPX) will take
place during the club meeting on Wednesday, September 21st. Novices take
note: the election for Novice Representative will be taking place shortly
after the Sherbrooke novice tournament of September 30th - October 2nd.
3) Novice Registration
For all novices that are interested in becoming full members of the Carleton
University Debating Society, registration will be taking place as of today
either at a) meetings, b) through an email to the VPX
(vpx(a)carletondebate.org), or c) via CUSIDnet. The $5.00 registration fee if
required by CUSA, but honestly, can you think of a better way to spend five
bucks than registering for CUDS?
4) CUSIDnet
CUSIDnet, as is well known to our veteran debaters, is simply amazing.
Where else can you debate arcane, intelligent, thoughtful, and/or
not-so-thoughtful ideas with arcane, intelligent, thoughtful, and/or
not-so-thoughtful people? Good for airing out everything from case building
ideas to personal beefs to commentary of societal trends, CUSIDnet is a
great place to get involved in the debating community. To sign up, check
out
http://www.carletondebate.org/cusidnet for instructions, and send us an
email (vpcom(a)carletondebate.org) with your request to access the Carleton
forum along with your selected login name.
That's all for now - hope to see you at the upcoming meetings!
Cheers,
Dan Meester
