Debate: Announcements

Hey Everyone, I have a few announcements, as the subject line would suggest. 1) Constitutional Amendment: As some of you know, CUSA has asked us to drop the word society from our name. Although they have neglected to give clear or consistent reasons for this request, we are nevertheless forced to adhere to their arbitrary decision. In accordance with their wishes, I would like us to add a sixth section to Article 1, reading " "For administrative purposes, the society may also be known as "Carleton University Debating." " This must be voted on at the next business meeting, on Monday, December 1st. The policy for making amendments is listed on CUSIDnet, so I won't repeat it here. If you cannot make it to the business meeting, you can submit a proxy vote. To do so, you must email both the president (myself) at president(a)carletondebate.org, and the VP Admin, Jeremy Schembri, at vpadmin(a)carletondebate.org. The proxy must be submitted at least two days in advance of the business meeting, so on November 28th. 2) Upcoming Public Debate: Our meeting this wednesday will be cancelled, as we are hosting a public debate at the same time. The debate is hosted in conjunction with AKCESS, and is taking place in ME 3235, starting at 6 pm. The resolution will be "Assuming that it's effective, This House Would allow torture". Dr. Trevor Purvis, an assistant professor, will also be speaking on the subject of torture at the event. His research areas include the legal fallout of 9/11, the war on terror, and, not surprisingly, torture. I hope you can all make it out! 3) Potluck: After the debate meeting this friday (November 28th), we will be having a debate potluck, so bring out some food! (seriously, I'm hungry, and can't cook for myself) If you can't make it out to the meeting, but would like to come to the potluck, it will happen at 18 Rideau River lane, come at about 6:30ish.
