1. Novice tournament results
CUDS had a truly landmark showing with this year's novice tournament. Not
only did Garnett Genuis and Andrew Lawrence finish 3rd place overall, but
60% (3/5) of our teams managed to bubble! This is an outstanding showing,
and it shows that the future of the club is in more than capable hands.
Congratulations to all our novice debaters for doing the club proud!
2. Upcoming tournaments
There are three upcoming tournaments that may capture your interest - please
apply either via CUSIDnet or by contacting the executive at
exec(a)carletondebate.org. Application deadline for all tournaments is firmly
set for October 13th.
a) Hart House BP Invitational, Oct 21-23. Please note that this tournament
will be taking place in BP style, so if you're interested in gaining
experience in this format of debate, this is the place to go. We will be
sending our world's team to this tournament so they can gain experience,
plus one more team.
b) Guindon Cup Pro-Am, Oct 28-30. This tournament, put on by EDS (Ottawa
U.), is a Pro-Am tournament - all teams will be composed of one novice and
one veteran debater. We can basically send as many teams as we want to this
tournament, so please feel free to apply.
c) Queen's Chancellor's Cup, Nov 4-6. This is the first standard CP style
tournament of the year, and is a good place for novices to become accustomed
to the regular debating circuit, or for veterans to ease back into the mix.
3. UBC tournament selections
Congratulations to Padraic Ryan and Garnett Genuis who will be representing
CUDS at the UBC tournament on the weekend of October 15-16th. Best of luck
to both of you, and see if you can bring back results as impressive as those
brought back by our novices!
4. This Friday's meeting
Due to the fact that most (normal) people will have turkey rather than
debating on the brain this coming Friday (October 7th), the regular club
meeting will be cancelled. Have a most excellent Thanksgiving, and enjoy
the upcoming long weekend!
