No Meetings During Reading Week
The weekly CUDS meetings are cancelled for reading week. Meetings resume at their regular
times and places the week of February 23.
CUDS has two weekly regular meetings in 411 Southam Hall at 5:30pm Wednesday & 2:30pm
Friday. We usually run several simultaneous debates. Everyone is welcome to come out; no
experience is required. Feel free to come late or leave early if necessary. These meetings
are in addition to CUDS President Mike Powell's case-building session in the
Mike's Place grad bar every Wednesday between 1:00 and 2:30 pm.
Ontario Youth Parliament
The Ontario Youth Parliament (OYP) is a non-partisan, interdenominational forum run for
youth, age 15 to 21. It is a chance for 120 to 150 delegates from all over Ontario to
come together in a mock parliamentary setting to debate important current issues. The
issues are discussed in the form of debate on legislation written as if to be presented in
the provincial legislature. In addition to providing a forum for debate, OYP also gives
youth an excellent opportunity to meet other intelligent people from around the province.
As a part of the weekend's activities, participants help raise money for local
charity, attend a banquet, a dance, and discuss the theme of the weekend as it relates to
them and their lives. The OYP will take place on the weekend of March 12th to 15th in
Ottawa. For more information, visit
www.oyp.on.ca . Registration forms will be mailed
out to anyone that is interested.
Dorchester Cup Coming up Fast
Carleton's Lord Dorchester Cup is coming up on the weekend of March 5-7. Mark this on
your calendars and email Dorchester Volunteers Co-ordinator Marion to ensure that you are
signed up to volunteer - we need everyone we can get!
CUSA Election Results
The unofficial CUSA Election results are out! They have been posted on the CUDS forum.
Former CUDS Executive member Liam Lynch has been elected Vice President Internal of the
Carleton University Students Association. Liam received 1574 votes, nearly 50% more than
his nearest competitor, during voting held last week. Join the discussion to analyze the
results. If you don't have access to the CUDS forum, sign up and then email me your
user name and I'll give you access. You only have to do it once and it's really
not difficult!
