CUSA Declares CUDS 2003/04 Club of the Year!
The Carleton University Debating Society has been declared the CUSA Club of the Year.
This award recognizes CUDS' outstanding success this year at tournaments, our
tremendous dedication when running weekly meetings, the helpful assistance we provided to
other clubs (such as moderating the recent Abortion debate), our unprecedented community
involvement (such as coaching Merivale and Judging Ashbury), our presence on the nation
stage whilst making a name for Carleton (CUDS member Wayne Chu being Executive Director of
the Canadian University Society for Intercollegiate Debate and our networking with the
University of Ottawa's English Debating Society), and our active participation in CUSA
(FACCS board, ad-hoc meetings). This award wouldn't have been possible without you -
congratulations!
Regular Meetings End with the End of Classes
Regular meetings are hereby cancelled. Meetings during the exam period will be scheduled
on an ad hoc basis on the forum. Just create a thread announcing when you'd like to
meet and if there's interest, we'll book a room.
CUDS Annual General Meeting (AGM) Next Week
The CUDS Annual General Meeting is set for Wednesday, April 7th at 5:30 in 101 Azrieli
Theatre. If you need to vote by proxy, please contact CUDS President Mike Powell. At
this AGM, CUDS will elect our executive for the 2004-05 school year. We are currently
looking for someone to take on the role of Vice-President for Debate (responsible for
organizing CUDS participation in external debating events and organizing internal CUDS
events according to the CUDS constitution). If you are interested in running for this
position, let the CUDS community know by posting to the relevant thread on the CUDS forum.
How 'bout it, Jerrett or Drew?
Register for the CUDS Forum
We'd really like everyone to take the time to register for the CUDS online forum to
keep up-to-date with the latest CUDS happenings, and with debate-related events on campus
that are not announced via this email newsletter. Here's the steps:
1. Register for CUSIDnet
2. Email me your user name.
Radio Show Tuesday 8:00-9:00 am
Every Tuesday Morning from 8:00-9:00 am, the official CUDS Radio Show, Four Idiots and a
Mike, appears on the Tuesday Special Blend on the Carleton University station CKCU 93.1FM
Ottawa. Focusing on the current issues of the day, the show is an unscripted, candid, and
thought-provoking forum where members of the Carleton University Debating Society flesh
out the ideas from the far right, the far left, and all political stripes in between.
Mike Powell, our illustrious host, is a Political Science student at Carleton University.
In addition to hosting Four Idiots and a Mike, he also currently serves as the President
of the Carleton University Debating Society.

My term as CUDS Vice President is winding down to a close. As control of the
Communications Directorate slips from my grasp, I have no doubt that it will be carried
off in unprecedented and unpredictable directions in the coming year. Best of luck to
whomever takes over my role next year, and farewell dearest readers. To everyone on the
2004/05 Exec: have fun reinventing the Club, kids. I sure did.
Nunc dimittis servum tuum. Sic transit gloria mundi.

P.S. For Marion's benefit, the word of the day is cogent: 1. Appealing to the
intellect or powers of reasoning; convincing. 2. Having the power to compel conviction or
move the will; constraining; conclusive; forcible; powerful; not easily resisted.
