CONSTRUCTIVE POINTS
1. CUDS Success at Guindon
2. Xerxes Judge Training
3. Word of the Day
1. Success at Guindon
CUDS broke last weekend at the 2005 Father Roger Guindon Pro-Am tournament,
held at the University of Ottawa. Mike Powell and Adam Coombs (N) broke
fourth and finished sixth overall after dropping in quarters. However,
CUDS' success wasn't limited to these two dapper gents - Chris Hannay broke
first in the public speaking break and finished 5th after the finals. Also,
Andrew Lawrence finished as 5th placed Novice, and Mike Powell was 7th
speaker overall. Carleton certainly seems to be moving up in the CUSID
world, as this is the third tournament in four weeks that at which Carleton
has broken!
2. Xerxes Judge Training
Xerxes, our annual High School tournament, is coming up next weekend! This
year's Xerxes looks to be the largest tournament that CUDS has ever hosted,
with 40-45 teams registered to come. To make sure that everyone is ready to
judge, CUDS will hold a judge training seminar during the regular Wednesday
meeting, and all those with little or no judging experience are asked to
attend. Questions and queries can be emailed to Mike at mbpowell(a)gmail.com.
Also, people would do well to skim the judging section of the Cusid Central
Debate Guide on pages 77-83, which can be found at
http://www.cusid.ca/documents/guides/central_debating_guide.pdf
3. Word of the Day
Today's word of the day is QUAFF. Defined as "to drink with relish"
(probably not the condiment). Example: Andrew quaffed the relish with
disturbing gusto.
