1. Rave Reviews for the Sprott Nationals
It is difficult to put into words how incredible the overall experience at
the Sprott School of Business National Debating Championships was, but
fortunately, others have done it for us. Here is a sampling of the comments
that other schools have left on the CUSIDnet forum:
"After six rounds, red carpet party at the NAC, the 8th floor hotel bash
that was off the hook, sitting in the Senate, sitting at Romeo Dallaire's
desk, and touching the One and Only Black Rod, we can only agree with Wayne
- definitely a candidate for Best Nats Ever. I guess eventually God will
decide. But on reflection, the fantastic time wasn't really a surprise. Cuz
that's how Mike Powell rolls..." (RMC)
"Who agrees that this tournament was not only great, it was perfect. I don't
know how it could realistically be improved upon, especially considering
that quarters and semis were done in splendid committee rooms (like the
Francophonie room, does anyone have a photo of that round?) not open to the
public!" (University of Ottawa)
"One of the first tournaments I attended was Carleton Leger. I think was
amazing is how much this club has grown from then, it is inspiring the way
that you have been able to lift yourselves by your bootstraps. As Wayne
said, from barely having the people or money to attend Nationals, to running
the best one in my memory." (Gordon Shotwell)
"Thanks Carleton for organizing what is arguably the best National
Championships ever. The food was delicious (good call on the Indian food on
Saturday!), the senate chamber was surreal and the tournament was extremely
well run. I have always loved Carleton tournaments!" (Gaurav)
"Thanks to Carleton for a wonderful experience. As someone who had never
even been to Ottawa before, being able to stand on the floor of the Senate
was incredible. And that was on top of what was already a great Nats
experience." (Kyle Kawanami)
"If that's how Mike Powell rolls... damn I want to roll with Mike all the
time!" (McMaster)
"I wanted to let everybody, all of the OrgCom, judges, debaters &
volunteers, realize how much I truly appreciate everything that you guys did
in order to ensure the BEST. TOURNAMENT. EVER! Way to go!" (Joanna Adams)
"Thanks so much for a fantastic weekend!! The socials were amazing, the
judging was of the highest quality, everything ran smoothly and
professionally, the powerpoints rocked my world (yay young Fred Savage!) and
the food (esp. the Saturday lunch) was delicious & nutritious. And of
course, the opportunity to debate in the Senate Committee rooms and the
actual Senate Chamber itself was thrilling beyond belief. Mike has to be
singled out for doing an amazing job as TD. I don't think Wayne was
hyperbolizing when he called this one of the best Nationals in recent
memory." (McGill)
